Ozaukee County has many great locations for winter cross country skiing and hiking, which are both wonderful ways to explore the County’s beautiful winter landscapes.
There are many notable options within the Ozaukee County Park System. Tendick Nature Preserve County Park in Saukeville and Mee-Kwon County Park and Golf Course in Mequon both provide groomed cross country skiing trails and warming houses. Additionally, great hiking trails can be found at Lion’s Den Gorge Nature Preserve County Park, Hawthorne Hills County Park, Mee-Kwon County Park, and Vermont County Park. Though trails are not groomed, park visitors have enjoyed cross country skiing at Virmond and Lion’s Den Gorge Nature preserve as well.
The Ozaukee Interurban Trail is another option for cross country skiing, as the trail segment north of the City of Port Washington is not plowed which provides a snowy surface. Other locations for cross country skiing in Ozaukee County include Riveredge Nature Center, Harrington Beach State Park, Mequon Nature Preserve, Pleasant Valley Nature Park, and Forest Beach Migratory Preserve.
